Personal Styling Services

You may have seen my latest posts about my personal styling services. For those of you who may be new to my brand or have questions about my services, let me explain. Personal styling is just that, it is personal. That being said, my services are tailored to each client and what they are looking for. Most clients will fall into one of these three packages.

You got this

This type of service is typically focused on an event or occasion. For example “My daughter is getting married and I am looking for two or three looks for the multiple dinners and events.” With a predetermined budget, I set you on my quest to find you some great options. We can shop together or I can bring the options to you. All looks are fully styled with shoes and accessories so you are ready to go from head to toe.

We’ve got you

More often than not, many wardrobes can be dramatically improved with only a few new pieces. This client is typically looking for new work pieces or maybe transitioning into a new environment. During your free consultation, we will determine your goals, budget, and over all style. This process can be spread out over two or three shopping trips. At least one will be spent together in an effort to point out what we are looking for when it comes to shape and fit. At the end of the experience, you will walk away feeling confident with your new pieces for work, home, motherhood or whatever the next step in your journey may be!

Relax, we’ve got this

This client is committed to herself and making serious changes to her daily wardrobe. This experience is by far the most effective and fun for me! I love getting to know my clients, this process will be more intimate than the other options. We will start by accessing your current wardrobe and maybe even getting rid of a few outdated pieces. From there we will determine your budget and overall goals before starting the process. This service can be spread over two or three weeks of shopping and styling. Collecting all elements of a great wardrobe; shoes, undergarments, accessories and key pieces for your life.

Being able to go through this journey with my clients is so rewarding. My end goal is confidence, you can’t stop a confident woman. If this sounds like something you would be interested in for yourself or someone else, please drop me an email below. I hope to work with you soon!

Above Basic Shopping Tips

At some point in a closet creation, you realized that you have the basics covered. You have that great white T-shirt in black and white, a good pair of jeans, a fitted blazer for work and a solid black pump. Having the basics covered is the first thing I look for when I start with a new client. Let’s say you have those covered and you’re looking to expand that same idea of basics. Today I am sharing a few tips for your next shopping trip to help you update and upgrade your wardrobe.

The T-shirt Upgrade

Everyone loves a T-shirt, they are comfy and familiar. If you are looking for an alternative to your regular crew neck shirt sleeve, look for the details. Look for unique prints, a rolled sleeve, or cute pocket detail. Little details can make your look more pulled together when you want to throw on a T-shirt and denim cut-offs and head out the door.

The Denim Update

I am all about a well fit, confident pair of jeans. If you are looking for something a little more interesting, you can usually find interest in the hem. Subtle details like a frayed hem, cuffed bottom, or even a wide-leg cut, can create a more interesting look or silhouette. Avoid cheap tricks like mixed washes that create an unflattering highlight on the middle of your thigh.

A Blazing Blazer

If you are looking to amp up your professional style with a new blazer, my same rules still apply. A good blazer hits at the right spot on YOUR body, has a good fit through the arms and can easily close with no pulling or strain on the buttons. Not all blazer cuts work for everyone so an easy way to stand out is with a blazer is color. You are looking for bright colors and maybe even a festive lining. Color is an easy way to stand out in a sea of black and navy.

A Better Black Pump

The timelessness of a great closed toe black pump will never fade. When you are looking to spice things up look for shoes, look for interesting fabrics like suede, velvet, or satin. You could have the same style of shoe in different fabrics and give it a totally different look. You can also look for other details like the heel height, embroidery, or the cut of the shoe on your foot. All these details can make a big difference!

I hope these tips help you on your next shopping trip. They say the devil is in the details, well luxury, style and confidence also lies in the details. If you are still feeling anxious about selecting the right pieces for you, I would love to help! Fill out the form below so we can get started on your free consultation!

Three Sides Of My Style

They say there are three sides to every story. I believe the same is true of my style. Not many people are confined to one particular style of clothing and you don’t have to be! My wardrobe is armed with pieces that can take me just about anywhere. My favorite part about my wardrobe is that a lot of things are convertible. I can style them differently based on an event or occasion. I have dresses that I have worn dressed down to a country concert and also worn dressed up for a Christmas party.

My style really has three sides. The rock star, the casual artist and the sweet girl. Today I want to share three looks, that I believe, represent my style on all sides.

The Rock Star

The Casual Artist

The Sweet Girl

I believe that a great wardrobe not only has a variety of pieces, but has pieces that are versatile. If you are looking to amp up your own wardrobe, send me an email so we can get started. We can start from scratch, pick up in the middle or even just find some new great pieces for you. Whatever style needs you may have, I am here for you!

Online Shopping Tips & Tricks

The days of shopping online have become more frequent than ever. People are home more and while our purchases may have shifted from work dresses to lounge wear, there are a few tips you should know to shop successfully online. My biggest reservation with buying things online was always the fear that it wouldn’t fit right and I would have to go through the hassle of sending things back. While a lot of stores still have their doors closed, my online shopping method has developed even more. Today I am sharing some of my best tips so that you can send fewer items back.

Shop Consistently

Staying loyal to particular stores or brands is really in everyone’s best interest. The more you shop in one particular location the more you learn about a brand. Take Target for example, through my many years of shopping I have learned that while Xhilaration may be slightly cheaper of a buy, I know I will more than likely need to go up a size since the line is technically for juniors. Universal Thread on the other hand is a boho easy going vibe and the clothing are cut to hang loose, so some pieces I can go down a size.

Reviews, reviews, reviews

Some companies that are more exclusive to online, like Lulu’s, take a lot of pride in their reviews. Look for details from others, such as “runs small through the arms” “Fits me perfect and here are my measurements!” We are all looking out for each other right? #womansupportingwoman

Know your stuff

We have all been there, we go to look up a size guide online and then are faced with a bunch of numbers that you don’t know off the top of your head. Do yourself a favor, take out your measuring tape and measure your hips, chest and waist for a starter. Record these measurements on a note in your phone so you always have them handy.

Honey

A great way to make sure you have checked all your bases for deals and discounts is Honey. This handy little “app” will search all coupon codes for you before you proceed to check out. If you are on the fence about a purchase, sign up for the email list. A lot of times companies will send you a discount code for your first purchase as an incentive to come back to the site.

Create an account

Most shoppers prefer to bypass the create an account portion of the online shopping process. Many sites have streamlined this process by allowing connections with Facebook and Google. I highly recommend creating an account even if it means typing in all of you information. Having an account is like having a customer service person there who can help you once the order is placed. You have a point of reference of when the order was shipped and can now track the item. You can look up previous purchases in case you want another great shirt exactly like the one you already have. If you do have to send something back, you have the receipt right there in your account for an easy faster return process. Not to mention, if the site has reward points, frequent shopper discounts or pop up sales, people with an account are the first to know!

I hope these tips will help you as we continue to evolve as consumers. If you are looking for someone to take the lead for you when it comes to shopping, I would love to help! Shoot me an email below at Thedirtyblondestylist@gmail.com

What No One Tells You About After You Getting Engaged

On June 2, 2018 the love of my life dropped to his knee on Virginia Beach Oceanfront and in one breath said “Will you marry me?”. From that moment on my life changed. Looking back on that happy time, I feel blessed that Jacob went to such length to make our engagement perfect for me. Simple, yet perfect. I always like to hear the proposal story, I think it tells a lot about the couple. Some proposals are more casual some are very over the top. As a planner, it is a great first introduction to the couple.

While you stand there in awe over your beautiful ring and your blushing fiancee soak in those moments, they are the best few seconds together of pure happiness. Because before you know it things are going to change around you.

You are not always going to look your best

You may have thought up this amazing proposal in your mind, you are wearing just the right thing and it is so romantic. In reality though those things don’t matter. Jim and Pam’s proposal story is one of the most romantic and spontaneous and it happened at a gas station. No matter what you wore or were doing that day, own your story, it is unique to you and your fiancee.

You won’t be able to stop smiling or looking at your hand

The day I got renegaded I remember my face hurt at the end of the day for all my smiling. My ring sparkled in the sun every time I moved and I never wanted to take it off. Still to this day I love my rings and all that they represent.

Your phone is going to blow up with notifications

As soon as your post goes live on Facebook or Instagram, just set your phone aside for a few hours. Trying to manage the virtual congratulations will take you out of the present.

Recently married friends are suddenly wedding planners

Suddenly all your girl friends who have gotten married in the last 5 years are going to offer unsolicited wedding planning advice. They mean well, so just smile and soak it in. Never hurts to get information on the crazy world of wedding planning.

You don’t have to figure everything out immediately

A lot of people will start asking your questions the second you get engaged. “Where do you want to get married?” “what is the big day?” “are you going to have an engagement party?” Don’t let these questions or people overwhelm you. If you are taking your time with the planning or going to have long engagement, all you have to say is “oh, we are just enjoying being engaged right now, but thanks for asking!”

So from one former bride to another, enjoy this time and soak up all of the well wishes for you and your fiancee. As you settle into your planning mode, I am here for you. Give me a call with all your questions. I love helping couples navigate through wedding planning.

Style For Everyone

Have you ever been shopping in a clothing store and a sales associate comes up to you and says “can I help you find anything?” More than likely you blow her off and say “I am just looking.” I don’t need a pushy sales person trying to sell me random things. Then there are other days when you are really after something specific. When you let that girl into your search, shopping I suddenly easier. She knows where to look for those great black pants. She can bring you options to the fitting room when that one did not fit. I was that girl.

During my consignment shop days, I loved it when people would ask for my help, “My son is getting married and I don’t want to spend a fortune on outfits for the different events.” I would run around the store and find several options in her size and bring them to her and gauge her opinion. Once she started to like a look, I would bring shoes and bags to show her what the complete look would be. For me, it wasn’t about her buying all the pieces I showed her. It was about her feeling excited and confident about the pieces she did buy.

As a personal stylist now, my goals are still the same. I want people to feel confident, in everyday life and at the special events. Great style is for everyone and for everyday!

Do you know what a personal stylist is? Do you know what a personal stylist could do for you? I can’t tell you what other stylist will do but my client is that real woman. She may not have the biggest budget for designer pieces, she may also be pressed for time and not able to go around to a hundred stores looking for exactly what she needs. That is where I come in! My services are broken down into packages based on what you may need. So if you need to start from scratch we can do that! Clean out the closet, create mood boards for your new look, shop together or I can bring the options to you! Maybe you are heading back to the office for the first time in a while and want to get some new pieces to amp up your work day looks. Let me find exactly what you are looking for!

Do you know someone who is in need of a little wardrobe revamp? Send them my way, shoot me an email with all the details and we can take it from there! After all, what better gift then restoring someones confidence. I can’t wait to help you find that inner style.

Rainy Day Relaxation

The rainy season in RVA is almost continuous in the spring. The most beautiful morning can easily be over run with afternoon showers to spoil the fun. During a rainy day, it is easy to be unmotivated or grumpy even if your day was ruined. I for one love the rain, I used to splash around in it as a kid. As an adult, I find inspiration, relaxation and peace from the rain.

Many people would not associate the rain with fashion, home or music. For me the perfect rainy day is made by just those elements. Today I am sharing some of my favorite pieces for a cozy rainy day.

Home

Vulspa Candles – perceptually Santiago Huckleberry

A huge cozy blanket

Glass tea cups

Meet & Greet

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Meghan Butcher, formerly Meghan Lucas. I am The Dirty Blonde Stylist. While you may know my brand, I want to share a little more about myself. I have found that the best connections with brands stem from knowing who is behind the logo, the Instagram and the blog. Let me share 10 things you may not have known about me.

I based my brand off of my “extra” side. The side of me that sends cupcakes via Uber Eats to say congratulations on your wedding or happy birthday. The sprinkles, confetti and celebratory nature of my company are based on a sunny side of myself. I want to spoil people I care about and love, my clients certainly become those people over our time working together.

I am proud of my southern upbringing and way of life. I love country music, I love my friends and family, I love camping, and being outside whenever I can. I love a cold glass of sweet tea on a porch and a beer sitting around the fire pit with friends. The simple things in life make me happy and I feel grateful to have grown up the way I did.

I am 1000% a daddy’s girl.

I am a picky eater. Imagine a toddler’s menu, I would probably prefer that to the crab leg dinner.

I believe that shoes and bags are a good investment, they always fit and never make me feel bad about myself, like tops and dresses.

I have an adorable rescue pup named Cece, a dachshund and chihuahua mix.

On Apirl 1st, 2022 I had my first baby, Jackson Butcher. In January of 2025 I had my second baby, Jase Butcher.

I have always had a handful of loyal friends over a huge crowd of people around me.

My husband is my best friend and huge support to me. I am so lucky to have him!

My three favorite movies are: Sweet Home Alabama, Talladega Nights, and The Devil Wears Prada

Now, I want to know you. I want to help you feel your best, grow your following and plan some of your biggest events. Drop me an email below for how I can best help you project your inner style.

Work vs Personal

If you work from home, like so many people do now a days, it is hard to keep a solid line between your home life and your work life. Your dog is right there, your laundry is staring at you and your kids are pulling on your arm. There are endless distractions at times. Working from home is a different environment then going to a different location in the morning. So in a time when we have to stay home or home is the only place we can go, how do you keep the lines from being crossed?

When I first started working from home, I will admit, it was hard to focus at times. Over time I have developed my own strategy for keeping my work and personal life separate.

Have a dedicated workspace

Even if you are working at your dinning room table, have a space that is devoted to your success. Make sure this space includes a comfortable chair, good lighting for any video calls and a speedy internet connection.

Make separate to- do lists

It is easy to think of things you want to do during the day. Vacuum the living room, fold the laundry that won’t stop staring at me, finish that book I was reading last night. If you think of non-work related things, have a separate notepad or place on your phone for this list.

Create new daily routines

While working from home may be new to many people, having a routine is still very important. Maybe you replace your morning commute with a morning walk? Get up at a reasonable time, get dressed for the day, and head to your “office”. Have a time when you take lunch everyday and maybe make a routine around your pet. When they need to go outside you get a break to make some more coffee, grab some more batteries for your mouse, or just take a breath of fresh air. Staying in work mode is the goal!

Creating a space that keeps you motivated can be one of the hardest parts. At the end of the day you are still working from home and fir some it is a new environment. For some this is an opportunity to thrive in a new environment. Challenge yourself to make new healthy habits and concur each day!
