At some point in a closet creation, you realized that you have the basics covered. You have that great white T-shirt in black and white, a good pair of jeans, a fitted blazer for work and a solid black pump. Having the basics covered is the first thing I look for when I start with a new client. Let’s say you have those covered and you’re looking to expand that same idea of basics. Today I am sharing a few tips for your next shopping trip to help you update and upgrade your wardrobe.
The T-shirt Upgrade
Everyone loves a T-shirt, they are comfy and familiar. If you are looking for an alternative to your regular crew neck shirt sleeve, look for the details. Look for unique prints, a rolled sleeve, or cute pocket detail. Little details can make your look more pulled together when you want to throw on a T-shirt and denim cut-offs and head out the door.

The Denim Update
I am all about a well fit, confident pair of jeans. If you are looking for something a little more interesting, you can usually find interest in the hem. Subtle details like a frayed hem, cuffed bottom, or even a wide-leg cut, can create a more interesting look or silhouette. Avoid cheap tricks like mixed washes that create an unflattering highlight on the middle of your thigh.

A Blazing Blazer
If you are looking to amp up your professional style with a new blazer, my same rules still apply. A good blazer hits at the right spot on YOUR body, has a good fit through the arms and can easily close with no pulling or strain on the buttons. Not all blazer cuts work for everyone so an easy way to stand out is with a blazer is color. You are looking for bright colors and maybe even a festive lining. Color is an easy way to stand out in a sea of black and navy.
A Better Black Pump
The timelessness of a great closed toe black pump will never fade. When you are looking to spice things up look for shoes, look for interesting fabrics like suede, velvet, or satin. You could have the same style of shoe in different fabrics and give it a totally different look. You can also look for other details like the heel height, embroidery, or the cut of the shoe on your foot. All these details can make a big difference!

I hope these tips help you on your next shopping trip. They say the devil is in the details, well luxury, style and confidence also lies in the details.
